Join the Friends of Joyce Tower Society!

The Friends of Joyce Tower Society (FJT) was formed in 2012 when, as a result of budgetary constraints, it was decided that the famous James Joyce Tower and Museum would close to the public and open only upon request.

The tower at Sandycove is one of south Dublin’s main attractions, appreciated by locals and visitors alike.  It is a site of great historic and literary importance.  Not only is it a fine example of the Martello towers erected to protect against a Napoleonic invasion but it is also renowned worldwide as the setting for the opening of James Joyce’s masterpiece, ‘Ulysses’.

The citizens of Sandycove and its environs could not allow their key attraction to be closed. They rallied together and formed the FJT, a group of volunteers dedicated and committed to staffing the Joyce Tower and keeping it open to the public 365 days per year.

These selfless people share an interest in James Joyce and a strongly developed sense of civic pride and responsibility. Through their efforts, the James Joyce Tower and Museum attracts nearly 50,000 visitors per year and continues to grow from strength to strength.
