Gas From A Burner by James Joyce 1912

On Joyce’s last visit to Dublin in 1912 he tried to persuade George Roberts of Maunsel & Company to complete the publication of Dubliners. Roberts, who had stalled publication for fear of charges of obscenity and libel, finally refused to proceed. His printer destroyed all the sheets on 11 September and Joyce left Ireland for ever the same night. On the journey he composed this pasquinade in the station waiting room in Vlissingen (Flushing) and had it printed in Trieste.
