7 Eccles Street - Calypso

Mr Leopold Bloom is preparing breakfast for his wife in the kitchen of their home in No. 7 Eccles Street. It is again early morning (this episode happens at the same time as the action at the Martello Tower). As he heads out to buy a pork kidney for his breakfast, Bloom “crosses to the bright side, avoiding the loose cellarflap of number seventyfive”. He turns right onto Dorset St, passes St Joseph’s school and enters Dlugacz the porkbutcher. On his way out he picks up a flyer for Agendath Netaim: planters’ company. As he heads home a cloud covers the sun bringing on depressive thoughts, the same cloud that earlier covered the sun in Sandycove bringing on Stephen Dedalus’ morose memories of his mother before the “warm running sunlight” returns.
