Bloom continues on down O’Connell St passing a sweet shop. It’s nearly lunchtime. On O’Connell bridge he feeds the seagulls. Sandwichmen march slowly towards him with letters on their hats: H. E. L. Y. S. He meets Mrs Breen, Josie Powell that was. Her husband Denis Breen has been sent a postcard - U.P.: up - Someone taking a rise out of him. She tells him that Mina Purefoy has been in the lying-in hospital in Holles street for three days. He walks on past Trinity’s surly front.
