Paddy Dignam’s funeral is at 11am at the Prospect Cemetery Glasnevin. The funeral cortege leaves from his home in 9 Newbridge Avenue Sandymount. Traveling together in one carriage are Martin Cunningham, Jack Power, Simon Dedalus and Bloom. As the funeral procession crosses the four Dublin waterways—the Dodder, the Grand Canal, the Liffey, and the Royal Canal - they mirror the four rivers of Hades. They pass Stephen Dedalus on his way to Sandymount Strand. As Dignam is buried Bloom wonders who the man in the macintosh is. The mourners leave, on their way they walk past Parnell’s grave, Mr Power says with awe “Some say he is not in that grave at all. That the coffin was filled with stones. That one day he will come again”.
