Bloom has crossed the river to the south side and is walking soberly “by lorries along sir John Rogerson’s quay”. After meeting McCoy, he heads to the post office on Westland Row where he picks up his letter from Martha Clifford before taking a detour through the Church of All Hallows sitting in the pews a while to listen to the mass. He walks southwards along Westland Row to Sweny’s the Chemist in Lincoln Place where he buys a cake of soap “sweet lemony wax”. Sweny’s is now a Ulysses museum. As he leaves, he bumps into Bantam Lyons who borrows his newspaper to read about the Ascot Gold Cup. Bloom imagines himself reclining in the bath he is about to have “a languid floating flower”.
