What is the Use of Reviving Irish? by Dermot Chenevix Trench 1907

Trench, on whom the character ‘Haines’ in Ulysses is based, was Anglo-Irish and a keen supporter of the Gaelic Revival. He stayed in the Tower with Oliver St John Gogarty and Joyce in 1904, and killed himself in 1909 after an unhappy love affair. Given by C.E.F. Trench.
