Original postcard from James Joyce to George Dempsey 20 December 1917

Dempsey, Joyce’s old English teacher in Belvedere, appears in A Portrait as ‘Mr Tate’. Card reads “”To my English master, with kind rememberances from his old pupil.” Acquired for the Tower from George Dempsey’s grandson, Brian Ellis, in 1989.
