3 photos relating to the Volta Cinema
Dublin’s first cinema was opened by James Joyce in December 1909. Joyce hoped for a share of the profits, but the venture failed when he left it in the hands of an Italian manager and returned to his family in Trieste. The cinema was bought by another company and continued up to 1948. Photographs given by Liam O’Leary Film Archives, 1982.
