“Davy Stephens, minute in a large capecoat, a small felt hat crowning his ringlets, passed out with a roll of papers under his cape, a king’s courier.” (Ulysses) A well-known Dublin newsvendor and character, Stephens claimed to have sold papers to King Edward VII and other princes, potentates and politicians. Photograph given to the Tower by John Osman of the Gallery of Photography, Wellington Quay, Dublin, 1991.
